Abstract:

Flame bending process is one of the forming processes of steel plates. During this process, plate is formed with heating by gas torch flame followed by controlled cooling along specified paths. Considering simple tools used in the process, it is a popular and economical forming method. At present, this process is manually done on the basis of skilled technician’s &#10experience. Experimental and non-automated procedures decrease productivity of the process. In this paper, a method is proposed for simulation of material deformation. Regarding the physics of the process, large deformation thermoelastic-plastic analysis has been applied. In the simulations, a new analytical solution is used for thermal analysis of plate. The analytical solution along with finite element analysis of the deformation in ANSYS program is able to interpret experimental observations. The simulations show reasonable results, compared with the analytical results by other researchers and with experimental data. The method and simulation results can be used to study the process automation&#10

Fabrication of Saddle-Shaped Surfaces by Flame Forming Process

The flame forming process is widely used to manufacture ship hull plates. The saddle-shaped surfaces have different curvatures in perpendicular angles of planes and the manufacturers face an anti-clastic curvature. In this article, the manufacturing of saddle-shaped surfaces utilizing the flame forming process is investigated. The spiral irradiating scheme is used for forming. In order to study...

Thermo-Elastic Analysis of Non-Uniform Functionally Graded Circular Plate Resting on a Gradient Elastic Foundation

Present paper is devoted to stress and deformation analyses of heated variable thickness functionally graded (FG) circular plate with clamped supported, embedded on a gradient elastic foundation and subjected to non-uniform transverse load. The plate is coupled by an elastic medium which is simulated as a Winkler- Pasternak foundation with gradient coefficients in the radial and circumferential...

Elastic-Plastic Analysis of Bending Moment – Axial Force Interaction in Metallic Beam of T-Section

This study derives kinematic admissible bending moment – axial force (M-P) interaction relations for mild steel by considering elastic-plastic idealizations. The interaction relations can predict strains, which is not possible in a rigid perfectly plastic idealization. The relations are obtained for all possible cases pertaining to the locations of neutral axis. One commercial rolled steel T-se...

Thermo-elastic analysis of a functionally graded thick sphere by differential quadrature method

Thermo-elastic analysis of a functionally graded hollow sphere is carried out and numerical solutions of displacement, stress and thermal fields are obtained using the Polynomial differential quadrature (PDQ) method. Material properties are assumed to be graded in the radial direction according to a power law function, ho...
